VirtualDub is a free video editing application designed for Windows platforms.

It may not have all the features of a paid editing software, but it can convert various types of video formats with almost no problems. There are many features offered by this program. The interface is clean, but you might need a couple of hours to understand what everything does.

Imagine this scenario: you have an excellent quality movie of about 8GB. Let’s say you want to watch it on your DVD at home, but you only have 4.7GB DVDs. Never fear, VirtualDub is here! With the help of this program, you just have to open the movie, select the frame where you want to split the movie and save the two parts(moviepart1.avi, moviepart2.avi). That’s all there is to it.

Every release of this software fixes potential bugs and improves performance. VirtualDub isn’t available for Mac OS X and Linux.

• The audio can be removed or replaced
• Decompress and recompress both audio and video
• Integrated Motion-JPEG and MPEG-1 decoders
• Extensive video filters, including blur, emboss, sharpen, smooth, flip, rotate, resize, brightness/contrast, deinterlace, levels
• Remove parts of a video clip and save the rest of it, without recompressing
• Fine tune the frame rate, even consider decimate frames
• Preview your final changes, with live audio
